Analysis of Health Service Use in Chungbuk area Using Andersen model

Abstract
|
|
|
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to find the factors associated with health service use of people in Chungbuk area using Andersen model which are popularly used to explain the pattern of health service use.
Materials and Methods : We analyzed the 2009 Chungbuk community health survey data. 13 independent variables are categorized into 3 groups(predisposing determinant, enabling determinant, needs determinant) according to Andersen model. We divided health care utilization into 2 groups, hospitalization and outpatient utilization. We examined correlation of health service use and each independent variable using multi-variable logistic regression analysis.
Result:Hospitalization is more in who are university graduates, have chronic diseases, work in farming or fishing area, don’t have occupation, and think subjective health status is bad. Outpatient utilization is more in female group, elderly person over 70, and who have chronic disease. As in the case with hospitalization, people thinking their subjective health status is bad use more outpatient services.
Conclusion: Needs determinant is the most important factor that influences health service use, both hospitalization and outpatient utilization. This means people in Chungbuk use health care services easily as they need. However we didn’t consider the amount and quality of health service use. So further studies on them are needed.
